The Boston Language Institute . . . says it hires the best native-language teachers in the area. Most hold one or two degrees and teach, or have taught, language at the university level. Class size is under eight. The institute offers [140] languages, including Japanese, Cambodian, Farsi, Russian, Irish Gaelic and – if you want to visit Sri Lanka – Tamil. One student in the school’s Korean class commutes from New York State because she can’t find that language taught anyplace else. Another, after 30 hours of Cantonese at the Institute, was mistaken for Chinese on the phone.
